Volunteering overseas
Volunteering overseas is a fantastic opportunity to develop medical, leadership and management skills as well as sharing existing skills with others.
Many staff and students at Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) are already doing some great work overseas, bringing back new skills and perspectives to their professional practice. We can help arrange such placements and offer additional support to anyone who may have arranged a placement through another body – or has organised it all themselves.
By offering a coordinated system of support to staff and students – from those just thinking about volunteering overseas to those already back from a placement – together we can improve the benefits felt by host hospitals, by volunteers and by CUH.
Why volunteer overseas?
By becoming an active member of Addenbrooke’s Abroad you could:
- Make a real and sustainable difference to the lives of the people you meet on your placement
- Add to your own life experience, gaining a whole new perspective on the way in which you work
- Build relationships with people in your field of expertise and establish friendships that will change your life in many ways.
Addenbrooke's Abroad and others offer many resources to help you decide if volunteering overseas is right for you.
The Project Support Scheme gives grants to staff undertaking voluntary work overseas (Project Support Scheme imformation, Project Support Scheme application form), and staff can use special leave arrangements for voluntary work (Voluntary Release Scheme policy).
